NYSED Curriculum Modules and Expeditionary Learning
The New York State Grades 3-12 ELA curricula include four modules that focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking n response to high-quality texts. Each module is intended to last eight weeks.
The modules will sequence and scaffold content that is aligned to the CCLS for ELA & Literacy and the PARCC Frameworks. Each module will culminate in an end-of-module performance task, aligned to the PARCC Frameworks, which can provide information to educators on whether students in their classrooms are achieving the standards. Modules may include several units (typically 3) and each unit may include a set of sequenced, coherent progressions of learning experiences that build knowledge and understanding of major concepts. They will also include daily lesson plans, guiding questions, recommended texts, scaffolding strategies, examples of proficient student work, and other classroom resources.

Expeditionary Learning
The Grades 6-8 Modules and 3-5 Modules were developed by Expeditionary Learning
"Expeditionary Learning schools inspire the motivation to learn, engage teachers, and students in new levels of focus and effort, and transform schools into places where students and adults become leaders of their own learning. We provide a model that challenges even those starting with low skill levels – with high-level tasks and active roles in the classroom. This model succeeds in urban, rural, and suburban schools and at every grade level."
